Five for Friday: May 3, 2013

Happy Friday!  I mean really happy Friday!  SAT-10 testing is over for the year.
It's time once again for Doodle Bugs Teaching's Five for Friday.

Number 1
Round one of the drama is over.  We registered  A  for kindergarten.  She was super psyched because there was some swag she got to carry home.  That girl is all about the freebies.  If any of  A's  future teachers should read this post.  I have two words for you  t r e a s u r e  b o x .  No other classroom management techniques will be necessary.

Number 2
I love quotations.  Sometimes a good one is all I need to adjust my attitude (if needed) or to take a new perspective on something or to be reminded of all the blessings in my life.  Sometimes I just need a little laugh.

Number 3
D  and I are going out tonight.  New Hope Advocacy Center (a local nonprofit that helps children that suffer from abuse) is having its spring fundraiser, Hops for Hope.  This event features brewers form the southeast, delicious food, a live band, and grown ups riding tricycles.  Sounds fun right?  I just hope the rain holds off.

Number 4

I have had an ipad in my class for the entire year.  The kids love getting their hands on it.  They each get to use it once a week during the Daily Five as part of their word work.  They also get to have a turn during math boxes.  My favorite app has been TeachMe: 1st grade.  This app has a toddler-third grade version.  It is simple to use and the kids really like the reward system.  You can turn on and off functions.  Let's say you want students to only work on reading skills, you can turn off the math questions.  I highly recommend this app.

Number 5
We have two weeks left before summer break.  Next week we are going to spend some quality time with Mr. Mo Willems.  My kids  l o v e  his books and so do I.  I can't help myself from reading his books to class throughout the year, but I save our Willems activities for the end of school.  It gives me something to look forward to.

Thanks for reading.  Now head over to Doodle Bugs Teaching for some more Five for Friday Links.

  3. Your blog is ADORABLE! So happy to be a new follower! I think I recognize the Sam Houston Elementary sign... I have a lot of family in Texas and I remember going to a show there for my cousin, many years ago. I wonder if its the same one?!
    Have a great weekend!
